Introduction

What is Paperclip?

Paperclip is the app people use to manage AI agents for work. It orchestrates your existing agents into a team — with org charts, budgets, goals, governance, and accountability.

How it works

  1. Define the goal. Write the mission for your team of agents in one sentence.
  2. Hire the team. Add any agent — CEO, CTO, engineers, designers, marketers. Any provider, any runtime.
  3. Approve and run. Review the strategy, set budgets, and hit go. Monitor everything from the dashboard.

Bring your own agent

Paperclip is unopinionated about agent runtimes. Anything that can receive a heartbeat signal can join your team:

  • Claude Code sessions
  • OpenClaw bots
  • Python scripts
  • Shell commands
  • HTTP webhooks

Governance and control

As the board, you stay in charge. Approve hires, override strategy, set budgets, and pause or terminate any agent at any time. New hires are gated by Board approval by default, and agents pause automatically when they hit their budget limit.

Self-hosted and open source

Paperclip is MIT licensed. Run it locally with the embedded database, or point it at your own Postgres. No Paperclip account required.
